I often go through our rugged bush property on a fresh day to find anything wooden.

If I am lucky, I find fiddle back pieces which come up like a wave of dreams, but it is also the most difficult wood and quite often something happens just before perfecting the masterpiece. The next best material is tea-tree, which believe it or not, is at its best just before rotting kicks in. The melaluca stumps supply many hours of enjoyment: bowls, egg-cups and little bits and pieces. The wood is very lovely, uneven in texture and beautiful in coloration.

More often than not I put the block of wood on the lathe and start the motor. With that I get my ideas and sometime a quite unique creation is made.
